The first home game of the season — and what a way to christen Hailey Park. Whitchurch welcomed Bridgend Sports for a fixture with a history of quirky results: both sides winning 50–0 away from home against each other last season. Strange things happen in this one.
The Warriors wasted no time making their intentions clear, scoring almost directly from kick-off and building on it with some great rugby from both forwards and backs. By the time Whitchurch had reached 24–0 it was looking very comfortable — but Bridgend then gave a glimpse of what they're capable of, getting their big forwards running hard with the ball and really competing at the breakdown. Their scrum and maul off the lineout caused some genuine problems and kept the game interesting.
But the Warriors stood tall and fronted up whenever it was needed. One of the best team performances of the year from top to bottom, Whitchurch ran out convincing winners at 57–22. A brilliant way to open the home season. 🖤🤍
