Llantrisant came to Hailey Park for what turned out to be one of the most eventful afternoons of the season — and that's putting it politely.

The first half was a tough watch. Llantrisant were physical, aggressive and got on top of the Warriors at the breakdown and in the contact areas — and there were a few afters thrown in along the way too. Whitchurch didn't front up, and the scoreboard reflected it. Four unanswered tries left the boys 0–22 down at the break and the coaches with some straight talking to do.

The half-time message was simple: front up. Give a little back. Because in rugby — real rugby — you can't let a side bully you and expect anything to change.

To their enormous credit, the boys came out in the second half like a completely different team. The momentum shifted almost immediately. Llantrisant, now finding it much harder going, got frustrated and started taking it out on our players. Ben crossed for a well-earned try to get the Warriors off the mark, and when Luca went over the line shortly after, the game — both in a sporting and, unfortunately, a literal sense — came to an abrupt end. A late knee to Luca's back from a Llantrisant player after the score was a step too far. Charlie reacted by pinning the player, Llantrisant came in swinging, and the match was abandoned.

Rugby is a contact sport and tempers boil over — that's the game. What mattered was what happened when the dust settled: hands were shaken, heads were held high, and the Warriors left the pitch with their dignity very much intact. They'd been bullied in the first half and they stood up for themselves in the second. That counts for a lot. 🖤🤍
