The first league game of the season, and the Warriors travelled up to Risca in proper rugby conditions — wet, heavy, and exactly the kind of morning that sorts out the committed from the casual. After a preseason defeat the previous week, the boys had a point to prove. Risca had a strong and aggressive pack ready to make it difficult.
It took some patience but Whitchurch eventually opened the scoring with two back-to-back tries to take an early 14–0 lead. Risca hit back — some great breakdown work and a momentary lapse in concentration from the Whitchurch defence gave them a route back into the game.
This time the heads didn't drop. The Warriors dug deep, kept their composure and found their rhythm again — spreading the ball well through the backs and controlling the breakdown much more effectively in the second half. Some lovely tries followed, and Whitchurch ran out 43–15 winners to kick off the league season in style. 🖤🤍
