First Rugby of the Season

Soooo… I know you have missed the weekly write ups so here we go! 😅 First one of the season 💪

Whitchurch welcomed Penarth and Newport Whiteheads to Hailey Park for a preseason round robin. A great morning of rugby played in the sun with great competitive games.

Up first Whitchurch v Penarth.

Great start to the game with a real physical battle all over the pitch, but it was Penarth who broke the deadlock early on. The remainder of the first half was back and forth with great carrying and defensive work by both teams.

Half time comes and goes with the score line still 7–0, but Whitchurch started strong in the second half scoring early with great work by Khadr crossing the try line, followed by a Jacob Coates conversion.

Scores all tied, back and forth and side to side, the Warriors really did front up and started using the ball — but unfortunately it was Penarth who broke through and scored the try taking the win.

Next up Whiteheads.

Just as physical, but we seemed to click into action with this game and started to flow. Some great rugby played and probably one of the best team tries I've seen in a long time, with two pods sucking in the defence and the backs getting the ball out wide to score a brilliant try.

Some real stand out moments — but honestly too many to mention this week, as I could say something positive about everyone who stepped on the pitch.

So I'll only mention and say a massive well done to Josh Heiberg for getting man of the match — all over the pitch like a demon possessed at times 💪
