Charlie Ellis packs down in the second row — the engine room of the pack, and not a job for anyone looking for a quiet afternoon. It's the position where games are won in the parts nobody puts on a highlight reel: the scrum, the lineout, the breakdown, and the endless graft in between.
Second rows are the tallest players on the pitch for a reason. Charlie is a key target in the lineout, a driving force in the scrum, and the sort of player who does the hard yards carrying into contact and clearing out rucks so the backs get the ball on the front foot. It's a role built on strength, timing and sheer work rate.
Charlie has come up through the club and is part of a squad that has grown enormously over the last few seasons — from a group that struggled to field a full side, to a team that went on to win the Pencoed Festival. Players like Charlie, who put in the unglamorous work week after week, are a big part of why that turnaround happened.
